I realized the other day how ironic it is that I moved from one city with an Amy’s I loved to another with a 2 Amys I love.
Amy’s Ice Creams
Amy’s, a local ice cream chain (which has now spread to Houston and San Antonio), serves ever-changing fun flavors of ice cream like Bananas Foster and Gingersnap and Shiner Bock. My favorite? Mexican Vanilla. Yum.
And best of all, every Amy’s store is different but still has that Keep Austin Weird vibe to it. Sure you could go to Cold Stone or Marble Slab, but they’re just not as fun.
And for my other favorite Amy…
We discovered 2 Amys a couple of years ago upon trying to find an authentic Neapolitan-style pizzeria in DC. As it turns out, not only is there an authentic Neapolitan-style pizzeria, it’s certified by the Italian government, who grants D.O.C (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) status to restaurants who use the proper ingredients and method to cook pizza as it’s made in its origin, in Naples. Who would have guessed there’d be an Italian pizza certification?
On our first visit to 2 Amys, Corwin compared our pizzas to a picture on his phone of the best pizza he’d had in Naples, and they were almost identical. And he said that this was the best pizza he’d had since Naples (which had the best pizza he’d ever had). As you’ve probably guessed, we like 2 Amys a lot. So much, in fact, that we’ve taken all of our friends and everyone who visits us there. And if we know you and haven’t taken you there, we probably will soon. :)
Oh, and another perk when going to 2 Amys is that it’s a block away from the National Cathedral, which is gorgeous. So inevitably most visits to 2 Amys end with a walk to the cathedral.
